Resolute Bay : The Daytime Journey in the Night
Summer 2004: Two Franco-Quebecois artists, Louis Couturier and Jacky-Georges Lefargue, discover Resolute Bay, its inhabitants, and their everyday life: a number of documentaries, filmed interviews, and landscape photographs have been collected and assembled for the video, Resolute Bay.
Winter 2006: On an arctic night the artists return to the island, this time accompanied by critic Paul Ardenne. There is a double-objective: to gather for a second time the voices and faces of this population, and to show them the creative film in which they have been featured. It is projected outdoors, against a monumental snow screen built by the artists and Resolute Bay’s inhabitants – an opportunity to work together, and a momentary distraction for the community at a time when local activity in the town has been reduced because of the winter’s perpetual darkness and the extreme meteorological conditions of the arctic winter. Le voyage du jour dans la nuit is the result of this new experience.
Autumn 2011: The project Resolute Bay will be simultaneously shown at the Picardy Museum of Amiens, the Montreal Museum of Fine Art, and Moose Jaw Museum and Art
